Welcome to the Mining Department

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, notified the rules governing the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir through its notification dated 27.08.2020. As per the said rules, the Department of Mining (Geology and Mining) which was earlier under the Administrative Control of Industries and Commerce Department has been carved out as a separate department. The Mining Department presently has Geology & Mining Department and Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Limited working under its Administrative control. The Mining department is vested with the responsibility of exploring, exploiting and establishing mineral wealth on scientific lines with an aim to ascertain the deposits are there for posterity. The guiding law governing the working of the department is Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and the rules made thereunder.
